How debt-ceiling standoffs impact gold
The debt ceiling is the legal limit on U.S.
They ended with the Budget Control Act on 2 August 2011, three days before S&P's downgrade; the deal that ended the October 2013 shutdown; and the Fiscal Responsibility Act on 3 June 2023.
A year after each standoff ended, gold was about 7% lower after 2011 and 2013, and 19.7% higher after 2023.
Silver split the same way, with larger swings. Three cases are too few to call a pattern.
